Memento Mori — What Does it Mean?
“Memento Mori” is Latin for:
“Remember that you have to die.”
This phrase serves as a reminder of the inevitability of death.
Memento mori has the profound potential to make us more aware and wake up our lives by living in the moment. The basic idea behind this philosophy is if people remember their inevitable deaths they will lead more engaged lives, live in today’s time, and take advantage of every opportunity rather than postpone them ’til tomorrow.
“Let us prepare our minds as if we’d come to the very end of life. Let us postpone nothing. Let us balance life’s books each day. … The one who puts the finishing touches is on their life each day is never short of time.” — Seneca
